About
West Seattle Be Prepared is an 18+ year old organization of volunteers who focus on preparing for disasters (especially earthquakes or severe storms) which would impact regular means of communication.

As of early 2026, we’ve taken most of our legacy content from this website offline.
We hope you’ll visit us on our new platform on the Seattle Emergency Hubs website! The benefits of moving to this new platform include a shared event calendar, a citywide interactive hub map, and a network of citywide volunteers who can help with events, outreach and communication.
We launched our first version of this West Seattle Be Prepared site in 2009, and our emergency preparedness activities in West Seattle predate that.
- You can find past coverage of our hub-related activities in West Seattle at this search on the West Seattle Blog. Their “Preparedness” category is also a great resource for previous coverage, as well as current and future preparedness-related content.
- For historic purposes, we plan to keep our West Seattle Be Prepared blog online, which spans 3/17/11 through 4/11/21. It’s an archive of how our org and preparedness efforts grew and evolved, wonderful photos of our volunteers and community events, and some of our efforts and ideas for generating interest and community involvement. The downside is that many of the links (even ones that used to link from our blog to our website) are broken – so there’s that!
- Want to connect about preparedness on Facebook? The West Seattle Be Prepared group has nearly 1700+ members! You’ll need to join to see and post content.
