Additional pet-related emergency information

We’ve gathered these additional pet-related emergency planning resources:

  • The Red Cross has a Pet First Aid app; as well, they sometimes offer pet first-aid classes.
  • The Seattle Humane Society plans to help displaced pets during emergencies.
  • The West Seattle Blog has a Pets page that can help with reuniting lost pets and their owners.
  • The Seattle Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has published this pet preparedness brochure (in .pdf format).

Disasters, and even small emergencies, can be very hard on pets, so it’s an especially good idea to make some plans ahead of time if at all possible. During an emergency, the official emergency information sources (city, county, regional and national), may also have information that is useful for pet owners (such as shelters that do allow pets, as most don’t).
